Woodside Cup – Casey Claims Victory with Superb 67

Paul Casey (5) produced an excellent round to win the Donnelly Group sponsored Woodside Cup at Ballymena Golf Club, recording the best gross score of the day with a one-under-par 67 for a net 62.
Casey made a strong start, birdieing the second before adding further birdies at the sixth and ninth to reach the turn three under par. Despite dropping shots early on the back nine, he steadied his round before finishing in style with a birdie at the eighteenth. A back nine of two over left Casey one under par overall and secured an impressive victory in near-perfect conditions at Raceview.
Simon McCartney (17) took second place following a countback after finishing with a net 63. Despite a difficult opening to his back nine, McCartney responded strongly, playing the final six holes in just one over gross and closing with three consecutive pars.
Gerard Fagan (12) also returned a net 63 to take third place after the countback. Fagan was two over gross through his opening nine holes before completing the back nine five over.

Raymond Vallelly (23) – Net 64
Gross & Twos
Paul Casey's 67 was also the best gross score of the day, with Gary Black recording the second-best gross score with a level-par 68. Black produced an outstanding front nine, reaching the turn four under par thanks to an eagle at the third and birdies at the seventh and ninth.
There were 29 twos recorded during the competition, with Sam Davison and Richard Mark both registering two apiece.
Coming Up at Ballymena Golf Club
Next week sees Club President Mr John Graham host his competition, with a large turnout anticipated in support of the hard-working club official.
The President's competition will be played in the Stableford format, with prize giving and entertainment following the golf.
