Weekly Competition Round-Up at Ballymena Golf Club

It has been another busy and successful week at Ballymena Golf Club with several competitions taking place across both the Men's and Ladies' sections, including Captain's Prize competitions, Lady Captain's Day events and the traditional Davy Marcus Memorial Trophy.
The week began with the Ladies' Captain's Prize competition, kindly hosted by Captain Noel Kidd. Olwen Black (38) produced the performance of the day, returning an excellent 41 points to claim the overall prize. In Division One, Jill Crockard (19) secured victory with 35 points, while Jennifer Eagleson (25) topped Division Two with 36 points. Tracey Hughes (34) won Division Three with 33 points. Jacqueline Brown claimed the Gross Prize with an excellent round of 90.
The Ladies' Nine Hole Stableford followed on 16th June, with Betty Penney (19) taking first place after returning 17 points. Mary Kearney (24) finished runner-up on countback, also with 17 points, while Teresa Kelly (17) took third place with 16 points.
In the popular HAT 13 Hole Competition, Jay Smyth (7) produced the winning performance with 32 points. Mike McVeigh (16) finished second with 30 points, while Adam Barr (-2) secured third place on countback with 29 points.
Lady Captain Tracey Smith's celebrations continued with both nine-hole and eighteen-hole competitions. In the nine-hole event, Margaret Logan (23) claimed victory with 16 points, narrowly edging Margaret Heaney (21) into second place.
The main Lady Captain's Day competition produced excellent scoring throughout the field. Joanne Galloway (54) was crowned Overall Winner after returning a superb 41 points. Louise Brown (16) claimed Section A and also secured the Gross Prize with an excellent gross score of 86. Sophie Conaughty (26) won Section B with 36 points, while Elizabeth Anderson (35) took Section C honours with 37 points.
The accompanying Men's 13 Hole Stableford saw Noel Gourley (22) emerge victorious with 28 points. Gareth McCullough (6) finished runner-up, also on 28 points, with Ciaran McCarroll (15) taking third place after countback.
The week concluded with the prestigious Davy Marcus Memorial Trophy, kindly sponsored by Smallcost Carpets & Flooring. Matthew Gregg (9) produced a superb display of golf to claim the trophy with an outstanding 41 points. Gregg played some excellent golf throughout the round, recording two birdies and returning a gross score of 72 to secure victory by a single point.
David Jackson (25) claimed second place on 40 points after a consistent performance throughout the day, while former Club President Leslie Frew (24) produced a strong back nine finish to take third place with 38 points. Steven Smyth (5) secured the Gross Prize with an excellent three-over-par round of 71, which included birdies at the second, ninth and tenth holes.
Congratulations are extended to all prize winners throughout the week and to everyone who participated in the various competitions.
Open Week Underway
Attention now turns to Ballymena Golf Club's Open Week, kindly sponsored by Irwin M&E. With the course currently in excellent condition and a full programme of competitions scheduled, members and visitors are encouraged to book early.
