Montgomery Claims Currie Cup as Robinson Secures Cameron Cup Glory

It was another busy and successful weekend at Ballymena Golf Club, with members competing for the Currie Cup and Thompson Cup on Saturday before the prestigious Cameron Cup Club Championship concluded on Sunday.

Montgomery Wins the Currie Cup

William Montgomery (16) produced an excellent round of 43 Stableford points to lift the Currie Cup.

Montgomery made the perfect start with a birdie at the opening hole before settling into a consistent front nine of solid golf. Despite a double bogey at the ninth, he reached the turn on an impressive 24 points.

The back nine brought a couple of early bogeys and a no-score on the twelfth, but

Montgomery responded brilliantly. Four consecutive pars from the 13th helped him add another 19 points and secure a superb winning total of 43 points.

Jay Smyth (11) finished just one point behind in second place with 42 points after another excellent round, while Garrett Magill (10) claimed third place on 41 points, highlighted by birdies at the third, fifth and tenth.

The remaining prize winners were:

• Raymond Scullion (18) – 41 points

• Dean Brown (14) – 40 points

• Peter McCann (13) – 39 points

• Lewis McGarry (14) – 39 points

• Paul Casey (6) – 38 points

Adam Barr recorded the best gross score of the day with an outstanding one-under-par 67, featuring birdies on the 3rd, 8th and 9th holes.

Thompson Cup

Running alongside the Currie Cup, the Thompson Cup for members aged 55 and over was won by Steven Smyth (5) with an excellent 37 points.

Smyth also returned the second-best gross score of the day, playing consistently throughout his round with just four dropped shots.

Stephen Hayes (14) and Peter Smith (23) also finished on 37 points, with Smyth taking the title on count back.
