Ballymena Golf Club Captain Noel Kidd enjoyed a hugely successful Captain's Day with a fantastic turnout of 180 golfers taking to the Raceview Course, which was presented in superb condition for one of the club's most anticipated events of the season.

The day produced a popular winner in Paddy Kearney (5), who returned an excellent 41 points alongside the best gross score of the day with a level par 68.

Kearney got his round off to a steady start before recording his first birdie of the day at the par-three fourth hole. He continued his impressive play throughout the front nine to turn in one under par. After opening the back nine with a par, a double bogey at the eleventh and a bogey at the twelfth briefly halted his momentum. However, Kearney responded superbly with a birdie at the short par-four thirteenth before adding further birdies at the sixteenth and finishing with two closing pars to secure victory.

Second place went to Stefan Calderwood (19) on 40 points. Despite a slow start, Calderwood found his rhythm with a par at the seventh followed by consecutive birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. A further birdie at the thirteenth and another on the eighteenth helped him claim second place on countback.

Steve Henry (16) was unfortunate to miss out after also finishing on 40 points. His consistent round included seven pars and ten bogeys, with only a double bogey on the tenth preventing an even higher finish.

The remaining prize winners were:

  • Andrew Barrow (12) – 39 points

  • Lewis McGarry (15) – 39 points

  • Brian Russell (23) – 38 points

  • Chris Adams (18) – 38 points

  • Paul Stevenson (9) – 38 points

In the Gross competition, Paddy Kearney's excellent level par 68 was enough to take top honours, with John Robinson finishing just one shot behind on 69 after recording five birdies during his round.

There were also 21 twos recorded throughout the day, with Paddy Kearney, Adam Barr, Steven Smyth and Stephen Russell all recording two twos each.

Captain Noel Kidd thanked everyone who supported the event and helped make the day such a success. With excellent course conditions, strong scoring and a fantastic turnout, Captain's Day 2026 was another memorable occasion at Ballymena Golf Club.
