Thomas Lindsay produced an excellent round to win the latest Ballymena Golf Club Sweep, finishing with 40 points and a two-point winning margin.

Despite opening with two double bogeys, Lindsay quickly recovered. After two bogeys, he parred the difficult fifth before dropping his final shot of the front nine at the sixth. Three consecutive pars followed, giving him an impressive 24 points at the turn.

The back nine began with a double bogey at the tenth and a bogey at the eleventh before Lindsay settled again. He played the next two holes to handicap, and despite a double bogey at the long par-three fourteenth, he did enough over the closing holes to finish with 40 points and secure the victory.

Leetch Takes Second on Countback

Three players finished on 38 points, with David Leetch (7) taking second place on countback.

Leetch opened with four consecutive pars and completed his front nine in three over gross for 18 points. His back nine included birdies at the eleventh and thirteenth as he added another 20 points to finish on 38.

Ken McGaughey (22) claimed third place, also returning 38 points after scoring 18 on the front nine and 20 on the back. Paul Rodgers (10) was the other player to finish on 38.

The remaining prizes went to Alec Lowry (25) 36 points, Sean McGarry (8) 36, Michael McCann (16) 36 and John Montgomery (25) 36.

Gross Prize

Richard Mark won the gross prize with a round of 72, producing a strong finish with birdies at both the seventeenth and eighteenth holes.

Gary Black also returned a 72 but finished runner-up following the countback.

There were 10 twos recorded during the competition, with none at either the second or tenth holes.

Congratulations to Thomas and all of this week’s prize winners.

Next week: Another Club Sweep, played in the Stableford format.
