Congratulations to Our Overall Winner – Harry Wylie
The Captain of Ballymena Golf Club, William Owens, was delighted to welcome 193 competitors to his Captain’s Day event, held in near-perfect conditions at Raceview. It proved to be a memorable day of golf, culminating in a superb performance by Harry Wylie (15), who emerged as the overall winner with an impressive 42 points, finishing two clear of the field.
Captain’s Day Highlights
Wylie began his round in fine form, carding two pars before producing an eagle on the par-five 3rd. After a bogey at the par-three 4th, he steadied the ship with a par at the demanding 5th hole and a bogey at the 6th. He followed with a par on the short par-three 7th, his only no-score of the day on the 8th, and a closing par on the 9th to complete the front nine with 22 points.
On the back nine, Wylie opened with a par at the 10th, followed by a bogey at the 11th and steady pars at the 12th and 13th. The long par-three 14th, playing over 200 yards to a challenging pin position, proved difficult and resulted in a double bogey. He followed with a bogey at the 15th and another double at the 16th. Despite the late challenge, Wylie finished strongly with two composed pars, earning 20 points on the back nine and securing his winning total.
Top Finishers
In second place was Henry Eagleson (11), who made excellent use of a recent midweek lesson to score 40 points, edging out Andrew Gregg (15) on countback. Eagleson recorded pars at the 1st and 3rd but dropped shots at both early par-threes, as well as the 5th and 6th. A par at the 7th and two further bogeys gave him 17 points for the front nine.
After the refreshment stop, Eagleson found his rhythm. He dropped only two shots on the inward nine (at the 10th and 16th) and finished with a birdie to post an outstanding 23 points on the back nine.
Andrew Gregg (15), who also returned 40 points, was narrowly pushed into third place. His round included a strong front nine of 22 points, featuring a birdie on the par-five 3rd, and an additional 18 points on the back nine.
